I have just enrolled on the" Black Scientists and Inventors: Pioneers of Innovation (Short Course)"
I am extremely excited about it. I have already bought some of the Black Scientists and Inventors books so I am fascinated about what will be taught on this course. My expectations are ...well I am not sure, I would just like to learn as much as I can about Black pioneers in STEM, in particular the man called Imhotep, my first introduction to that name was in the film the Mummy. I wonder if the co-ordinator of the course could tell me is that the same person who you teach about on the course ?

I am interested in having a platform of knowledge which I can study a wealth of information in one location.
Hey Kwame you are really in the right place to learn the truth about the African contribution to STEM. In fact you will find out that it was Black people who were the pioneers of STEM subjects. I would not rely on Hollywood to get factual information about African history at all. One of this platform's primary goals is the correcting of the Eurocentric distortions about Africa’s past by uncovering and celebrating African contributions to civilisation. I will say that the depiction of Imhotep and ancient Egypt in Hollywood films is a major source of the distortions mentioned above. So please don't take the portrayals in the movie industry as accurate history, as they are seriously false and made strictly for entertainment purposes.
@45 Antonio the knowledge on this platform is for the rediscovering of African advancements in medicine, architecture, astronomy, metallurgy, and even agriculture. So you are in the right place. Please ask any questions that you want answered, and we will give you the verifiable scientific evidence that we have.
I think for me, I just want to extend my knowledge of Black Inventors. I've bought the books on this platform and they have really helped me learn about the amazing contributions people of African descent have made to science and Technology. So if this course can add more and also give a different context that would be helpful for me.
@46 jegnaj I also first learned about Imhotep from the film the mummy, he was some sort of evil creature. Are you saying, that is a different Imhotep ?
I am really looking forward to refreshing and deepening my knowledge on black scientists and inventors after ready many of the books whilst growing up!
@49 Hey Anna Marie you will learn so much within this platform, so congratulations on making the jump. I probably wasn't clear in my earlier response to the question asked; my apologies. Yes, the Imhotep in the Mummy movies is a portrayal of the actual historic Imhotep. However, the character in the movie bears absolutely no relation to the real Imhotep. To cast Imhotep as some evil demon is frankly a disgrace. But when you have been lying for so long it is so hard to tell the truth. Imhotep was the first ever polymath, physician, architect, astronomer, statesman, and the world's first intellect. He was worshipped centuries after his death as the God of Medicine, both inside and outside of Africa. The question we should ask is why was he cast as a demon in Hollywood?
I would love to learn more about black individuals who decided to create and manifest their own inventions. If this fulfils this then that will be awesome. This is because I love promotion and have taken a particular interest in promoting my own work as a black mystery novelist.
I am looking forward to this course to learn more about STEM and Black scientists and inventors :-)
